George Henry “Doc” Thompson was born in Phillips, NE on July 30, 1900. His family moved to Lincoln, NE in 1907, where he finished high school. He completed his undergraduate degree at the University of Nebraska, Lincoln and went on to Creighton Dental School to start his career as a dentist.

While at NU, he became friends with the great Husker Football player, Guy Chamberlin.

He married Elta Bernice Spencer in 1923 and two years later they moved to Sidney, NE where he practiced dentistry until 1965.

At that time, he spent four and a half years in the U.S. Army completing his tour of duty. Including time in the army reserve, he retired as a major.

Doc was a lifetime member of the American Dental Society and Nebraska Dental Society. He was active in community organizations and a member of the First United Methodist Church.

He was on the board of directors at Sidney Federal Savings and Loan, serving as president from 1968 to 1987, becoming chairman of the board in 1988.

Doc Thompson had a passion for horseback riding, was an astute investor and loved helping others. He lived a full life of service and commitment to his career, community and country.
